Will LFW follow suit? Muslim fashion designer makes HISTORY with hijab collection at NYFW. Anniesa Hasibuan - an Indonesian designer - showed her latest collection during last week's much coveted New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Other fashion designers who showed their collection include Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. But Hasibuan's D'Jakarta Spring Summer '17 collection stood out from the crowd and has been praised by Twitter users around the world. It was the designer's collection of silk hijabs - cut in ivory, peach and grey silk - that got fashion fans talking. Hasibuan is the first NYFW show ever to have all models wearing a hijab Every model wore the beautiful silken hijabs as part of their outfits attracting a lot of media attention. FashionPoliceD tweeted: "Anniesa Hasibuan spring 2017 is the first NYFW show ever to have all models wearing a hijab. #NYFW" And Sara Yael Hirschhorn added: "@nyfw has first "all-#hijab" #fashion show from Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan -- wow! gorgeous!" The designer took to the runway after the show where she received a standing ovation from the audience. Speaking after the show, the designer told CNN: "I am so proud and thankful for everyone on the team who helped me so this event could happen, and I am so thankful to international and local media from Indonesia for exposing my show. "I did not realise the result can be this amazing, and I am thrilled and humbled by the welcome reaction given." But it wasn't the female designer's first fashion week. The 30-year-old has previously held shows at London and Paris but this was her first catwalk in the US. Could a designer follow suit during this week's hotly anticipated London Fashion Week? It remains to be seen…
