Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF) is back November 1-5 in five venues: Teater Jakarta, Graha Bhakti Budaya, Teater Kecil (Taman Ismail Marzuki) Teater Luwes (Jakarta Art Institute) and Jakarta Art Building. In their 24th year, IDF will be filled with a wide variety of events from dance performances, film screenings, seminars and workshops.

IDF 2016 theme is TUBUH SONIK (Sonic Body). With this theme, IDF 2016 is discussing all possibilities of artistic manifestation that refer to the human body along with the sound waves in a variety of spaces and their dimensions, mutually interfering each other. In every room and the context of where he is, the human body can become the center interference as well as to emit sound that can roam anywhere, penetrate into various dimensions for then found himself a new one.

IDF is a dance festival organized to encourage creativity dance artists. The event was held for the general public to enjoy the work of contemporary dance from local and international's choreographer. Through dance, IDF wants to invite people to explore and had a deeper understanding on diversity and their own situation with others. This is important, given the current situation where there's a less respect for diversity.

The Pre-Opening at October 30 will be held in Hutan Kota Kali Pesanggrahan, featuring dance performance by Jefriandi Usman and dance theatre troupe by Abdullah Wong. Then, Melati Suryodarmo is presenting her works for the Opening Ceremony in Teater Jakarta.

The other performances are from Park Je Chun (South Korea), AnTony Hamilton (Australia), Aguibou Bougobali Sanou (Burkina Faso), Filastine (Spain-Indonesia), Punkasila & Fitri Setyaningsih (Indonesia), Fitri Anggraini (Indonesia), Andara Firman Moeis (Indonesia), Ari Ersandi (Indonesia), Rianto (Indonesia), Nihayah (Indonesia), Darlene Litaay (Indonesia) & Tian Rotteveel (The Netherlands), and Jecko Siompo & Animal Pop Family (Indonesia). Park Je Chun will appear with three dancers from South Korea and four dancers from Indonesia, Day Ghulur (Indonesia), Fadila Oziana (Indonesia), Try Anggara (Indonesia), and Josh Marcy (Indonesia).

IDF 2016 will also present a Retrospect program on Hoerijah Adam, a dance reformer from Minangkabau (1936-1971). This Retrospect will include the film screening of the work and life journey of Hoerijah Adam, titled Playing Barabah, reconstructed by Katia Engel (Germany) and will be combined with a dance performance by Sentot Sudiharto (Indonesia). Alongside them, there will be an exhibition archiving Hoerijah Adam's works and Barabah presentation by SMKN 7 Padang under the guidance from Ery Mefri.

In addition to dance performances, there are dance critique writing workshops from a journalistic perspective; a master class given by the choreographer and experienced artists; discussions; workshops for the young choreographers; and the achievement award for them who have a major contribution in local dance development.

The entire program at IDF 2016 curated by Helly Minarti (Indonesia), Tang Fu Kuen (Singapore), and Seno Joko Suyono (Indonesia). All curators are assisted by three assistants: Taufik Dervish, Nia Agustina, and Agnesia Linda- Graduate of Curatorial Dance Workshop organized by IDF in November 2015.
