BKPM promote ease of business among British entrepreneurs


JAKARTA -- Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani will speak at the UK-Indonesia Business Forum in London this morning local time.

According to a statement received by Antara here on Wednesday, President Joko Widodo is scheduled to deliver a speech at the business forum, which is being attended by some 300 British entrepreneurs.

Sibarani noted that at the forum, the board will highlight Indonesia's reforms to improve its investment services.

He also termed the board as a "one-stop shop" for investment.

"With the concept of 'one-stop shop,' investors can simply approach the board to utilize the services of 22 ministries and central institutions to obtain investment permits through a three-hour service as well as the facility to implement their investment plans," he noted.

Sibarani explained the government's plans to deregulate some business policies.

Of the 40 relevant regulations, the government has deregulated 29 po licies.

"We are optimistic that the deregulation process would improve Indonesia's ease of doing business index ranking in the survey conducted by the World Bank," he affirmed.

In addition to Sibarani, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti is scheduled to give a presentation on the investment potential in Indonesia's maritime sectors.

Several business agreements, including an investment commitment, are expected to be signed during the forum.

"Some companies have announced their plans to invest in Indonesia, and some firms are signing several memoranda of understanding with their Indonesian local partners," Sibarani revealed.

Britain is one of the world's investment resources. According to data from the Financial Times, the United Kingdom's investment across the world in 2015 reached US$229 billion, of which less than one percent was in Indonesia.

The United Kingdom had invested significantly in the United States, India, and A ustralia.

According to the Investment Coordinating Board, the realization of British investment in Indonesia during the 2010-2015 period reached $4.8 billion comprising 950 projects and had absorbed 214 thousand workers.

The country's investment in Indonesia in 2015 had reached $503 million, up by 22.98 percent from the average investment value of $409 million during the 2010-2014 period.
